▶ Chef Jungsik Yim’s “Jungsik New York”
▶ Only 14 Restaurants in the U.S. Achieve 3 Stars
For the first time, a Korean restaurant in the United States has received the highest accolade of 3 stars from the prestigious Michelin Guide. On December 9, the Michelin Guide New York announced that "Jungsik New York," helmed by Chef Jungsik Yim, has earned its first 3-star rating this year.
Jungsik, a fine-dining restaurant rooted in Korean cuisine, opened its flagship location in Seoul, where it holds a 2-star Michelin rating. The New York branch, established in 2011, achieved its first Michelin star in 2012 and was elevated to 2 stars in 2013. After maintaining 2 stars for a decade, the restaurant has now become the first Korean establishment in the U.S. to earn the coveted 3 stars, 13 years after its founding.
Achieving a 3-star rating is a monumental feat, even among the world's top chefs. According to the Michelin Guide, there are currently only five 3-star restaurants in New York City, including Jungsik, and just 14 across the entire United States. The Michelin Guide praised Jungsik for its elevated culinary artistry, noting, "The quality of the dishes and the craftsmanship of the sauces are exceptional. The presentation is intriguing, and the flavors are refined, clear, and harmonious. Truly impressive."
Other Korean restaurants also shone in the latest Michelin Guide New York. Fine-dining restaurant "Noksoo," located near a subway station in New York's Koreatown, and "Jua," another Korean eatery in the same area, were newly awarded 1-star ratings this year.
Additionally, the "Bib Gourmand" distinction—granted to establishments offering excellent meals at reasonable prices—featured popular Korean fried chicken spot "Kko Kko Dak" among its honorees.
