Cyber Monday Sales Reach Record $13.3 Billion
Nationwide consumer spending on Cyber Monday reached $13.3 billion, setting an all-time record, CNN reported on the 3rd.

According to Adobe’s marketing data analytics service, Adobe Analytics, consumer spending on Cyber Monday (December 2), following the year’s biggest shopping event, Black Friday (November 29), amounted to $13.3 billion, a 7.3% increase from the previous year. This broke the record of $12.4 billion set just a year earlier.

Previously, Adobe Analytics reported that online sales on Black Friday amounted to $10.8 billion nationwide.

Online spending during Thanksgiving and Black Friday increased by 8.8% and 10.2% compared to last year, respectively.

From Thanksgiving through Black Friday to Cyber Monday, the five-day period referred to as "Cyber Week," online spending totaled $41.1 billion, surpassing last year’s $38 billion and setting a new record. Vivek Pandya, a lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights, noted the remarkable year-over-year growth in online sales during Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

The most popular items were toys, along with electronics such as computers, headphones, speakers, electric scooters, and smartwatches.

According to CNN, U.S. consumers spent $15.8 million per minute during the last two hours of Cyber Monday.

CNN also attributed Cyber Monday's record-breaking sales to shopping via mobile devices. Consumers spent $7.6 billion through mobile shopping, and the proportion of online sales made via mobile devices rose significantly to 57% this year, compared to 33% in 2019. With the increasing number of smartphone users, shopping via mobile devices continues to grow rapidly.
