This year's Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to John Hopfield (91) and Geoffrey Hinton (76), who laid the groundwork for machine learning in artificial intelligence (AI). This marks the first time Nobel laureates have emerged from the AI field.
On the 8th, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ Nobel Committee announced that the prize would be awarded to these two scientists. Hopfield, from the U.S., is affiliated with Princeton University, while Hinton, originally from the U.K., is based at the University of Toronto in Canada. The committee recognized their significant contributions and inventions related to enabling machine learning through artificial neural networks.
