On July 10, a military-style immigration raid took place at a farm in Camarillo, Ventura County, where federal agents deployed tear gas and clashed intensely with hundreds of protesters at the site. At approximately 11:25 a.m., Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Border Patrol, and National Guard troops equipped with combat gear and military vehicles conducted a joint operation targeting workers at Glass House Nursery, a large marijuana cultivation farm located on Laguna Road near Las Posas Road in Ventura County.

Witnesses reported that workers in the farm’s warehouse were detained by federal agents during the raid. The operation, conducted at a significant agricultural facility, also reportedly led to the detention of some U.S. citizens, according to eyewitness accounts.

The raid caused surrounding roads to be blocked, and approximately 500 protesters gathered in front of the farm to confront federal agents in opposition to the operation. Federal agents drove vehicles through fields to disperse the crowd, while some protesters resisted fiercely, blocking military vehicles or throwing water bottles at them.

One witness claimed a resident attempting to record the raid on a cellphone was threatened at gunpoint by a federal agent. Agents fired tear gas, smoke bombs, and rubber bullets at the protesters, resulting in multiple injuries and prompting paramedic response. The Ventura County Fire Department responded to reports of respiratory distress due to tear gas exposure, providing emergency care, though the exact number of injuries or hospitalizations remains unconfirmed.

Several individuals were detained during the operation, and footage captured dozens of protesters sitting with their hands bound. While Ventura County has seen immigration raids since early June, this operation was notably larger, involving the National Guard.

Oxnard’s mayor condemned the raid, stating it caused “unnecessary suffering and anxiety in the community” and announced plans to explore legal responses in collaboration with California’s Attorney General and Governor Newsom. The raid, part of a broader wave of large-scale immigration enforcement across Southern California, has instilled significant fear and anxiety among farmworkers and immigrant communities.

Local police and city authorities clarified they were not involved in the federal operation. The raid occurred just two days after U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins stated there would be no amnesty for farmworkers.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, executed a criminal judicial search warrant at Glass House Farms after obtaining evidence of undocumented immigrant employment, according to senior federal officials. The operation could result in hundreds of arrests, potentially making it one of the largest under the Trump administration.
