Last month, consumer price inflation slowed more than expected. The U.S. Department of Labor reported on April 10 that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March rose 2.4% compared to the same month last year. This marks a significant slowdown from February’s 2.8% increase and is the lowest rate since February 2021, a span of four years and one month. On a month-to-month basis, the CPI fell by 0.1%. This drop represents the largest monthly decline since March 2020, during the early stages of the pandemic. In contrast, food prices rose 0.4% from the previous month. The surge in egg prices, which jumped 5.9% month-over-month and 60.4% year-over-year, was a key driver.
