Amazon to Hire 250,000 Temporary Workers for Holiday Shopping Season, Similar to Last Year
Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company based in Seattle, announced on the 3rd that it plans to hire a total of 250,000 seasonal workers nationwide to bolster its logistics and order fulfillment networks in preparation for the holiday shopping season.

Last year, Amazon also hired 250,000 temporary workers across the country to prepare for the holiday season.

This year, Amazon plans to hire around 20,000 workers in California and about 7,000 in Washington State.

Amazon stated that the average hourly wage for workers hired this holiday season would be $18.

In addition to this temporary hiring, Amazon, which has mandated office returns starting next year, is expected to cut 14,000 managerial positions as part of its cost-cutting efforts.

On the 5th, Morgan Stanley predicted that Amazon could cut around 13,834 managerial positions, saving about $3 billion next year. Morgan Stanley estimated that approximately 7% of Amazon's workforce is in management roles and calculated that, as of the end of the second quarter, Amazon had around 105,770 managers worldwide. According to Morgan Stanley's forecast, this number could shrink to around 91,936 by the first quarter of next year. Amazon does not publicly disclose its workforce figures.

Morgan Stanley estimates the average annual cost of a manager to be between $200,000 and $350,000 and projected that the managerial cuts could reduce Amazon’s expected operating income for 2025 by about 3% to 5%.

Including employees working in logistics and warehouse sectors, Amazon has over 1.5 million workers in total.
