A 70-year-old Korean man was severely injured after being assaulted while protesting reckless driving on Wilshire Boulevard in the heart of Koreatown.
According to the victim, Mr. Hong-rae Kim (76), the incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. on the 16th. While driving along Wilshire Boulevard towards Vermont Avenue, Kim encountered a reckless driver at the intersection of Hobart Boulevard. After narrowly avoiding a collision caused by the sudden lane cutting, Kim expressed his displeasure towards the driver.
The driver of the silver Chevy sedan, a Hispanic man in his mid-30s, responded with offensive gestures and profanities. When Kim got out of his vehicle to further express his frustration, the Chevy driver exited his car and began assaulting him.
The assault continued for some time before the Chevy driver got back into his vehicle and fled the scene. Bleeding, Kim drove himself to the Olympic Police Station to report the incident. The Olympic Police Department has begun identifying the suspect based on the vehicle's license plate number, which Kim had managed to record. The case is being handled as a criminal investigation.
After filing the report, Kim visited a local clinic in Koreatown, where the doctor recommended that he undergo further testing. As a result, he was transported to the emergency room at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.
It is reported that Kim may have sustained brain vascular issues due to the repeated blows, and he also has severe facial lacerations that require sutures.
