Kia America, Inc., the U.S. sales subsidiary of Kia Motors, is facing multiple lawsuits across the country, alleging that the company failed to honor its warranty after continuous defects were discovered in the vehicles it sold.
According to federal court records, at least four warranty-related lawsuits against Kia were filed across the U.S. in August alone. On August 7, two residents of San Diego who had purchased a 2020 Kia Sorento filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, demanding a jury trial. They claimed that despite discovering defects in the transmission and powertrain components, Kia did not provide the warranty coverage as promised.
On August 20, another resident from Vista, near San Diego, who purchased a 2020 Kia Niro, filed a complaint in the same federal court, also requesting a jury trial. The plaintiff alleged that multiple defects occurred in the vehicle’s steering system, but the warranty failed to adequately cover the necessary repairs.
Similarly, on August 27, a resident who bought a 2024 Kia Sorento from a Kia dealership in Woodbridge, Virginia, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The lawsuit claims that the vehicle's infotainment screen malfunctioned and the turn signal camera had issues, yet the problems persisted despite attempted repairs.
On August 30, another lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by a resident who purchased a 2021 Kia Telluride. The plaintiff claimed that an engine fire occurred without any collision, causing damage to both the vehicle and their home.
The plaintiffs in these cases are seeking monetary and punitive damages, as well as a court ruling on Kia’s breach of the new car warranty.
