“Kukkiwon is the global headquarters that preserves the essence of Taekwondo.”
The ‘2025 World Taekwondo Hanmadang’ will take place from July 17 to 19 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Organized by Kukkiwon, the home of Taekwondo, and managed by the 2025 World Taekwondo Hanmadang Organizing Committee, this event holds special significance as it marks the first time since its inception in 1992 that the competition will be held outside South Korea, in the United States.
Kukkiwon Secretary-General Kang Jae-won stated, “This event is more than just a competition; it is a stage to showcase the spirit, skills, and Kukkiwon’s vision for the globalization of Taekwondo.” Approximately 3,000 Taekwondo practitioners from over 30 countries are expected to participate, including youth amateurs, professional demonstration teams, and athletes competing in the Para Taekwondo division for individuals with disabilities.
The organizing committee aims to make this event a platform for exchange and celebration rather than solely a competitive arena. Organizing Committee Chairman Lee Sang-chul remarked, “Hosting the World Taekwondo Hanmadang in the Americas for the first time symbolizes Kukkiwon’s prominence in the U.S. and the growing popularity of Taekwondo. We hope this event, where high-level athletes from various countries come together, will inspire and motivate all participants.”
