Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is expanding its Waymo autonomous ride-hailing service to the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved Waymo’s expansion plan on May 19. Waymo currently operates over 250,000 paid robotaxi trips per week in the U.S. Waymo’s driverless vehicles are equipped with approximately $150,000 worth of technology, including a radar system valued at around $70,000.
