Trump: $5,000 per Household if Budget Cuts Succeed
President Donald Trump has unveiled a plan to distribute savings to American citizens if federal budget cuts are successfully implemented.

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 19th, President Trump, speaking at an event hosted by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund in Miami, Florida, said, “We are considering a plan to return 20% of the budget savings to American citizens and use another 20% to pay down the national debt.”

In this regard, it has been projected that the amount American citizens could receive might reach $5,000 per household.

This figure is based on the assumption that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, achieves its goal of cutting $2 trillion from the budget. If, as President Trump stated, 20% of this amount is distributed to the public, it would equate to $400 billion, translating to $5,000 per taxpayer household.

DOGE maintains that it can reduce the budget through improved federal government efficiency and large-scale restructuring, but whether it can achieve the $2 trillion budget reduction goal remains uncertain.

The idea of distributing budget savings to citizens originated from James Fishback, an investor and Trump supporter. Fishback recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) about a “DOGE dividend,” advocating that 20% of the $2 trillion savings be returned to citizens in the form of tax refunds. Musk responded, “I will check with the President,” which quickly gained momentum.

It appears that President Trump made the statement about returning 20% to citizens after hearing Musk’s report on the matter.

During the speech, Trump pointed to Musk, who was seated in the front row, describing him as “a person with a very high IQ” and adding, “He has flaws, but not many.”
