“Will Talk to China Within 24 Hours… Tariffs Will Rise If No Deal Reached”
President Donald Trump reaffirmed on the 3rd that while he will continue discussions with Mexico, Canada, and China regarding tariff issues, he will have no choice but to impose tariffs if the desired outcomes are not achieved.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump stated, "No one is exempt from tariffs. We had a great conversation with Mexico, but we must stop fentanyl."

Earlier, President Trump spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and announced that the 25% tariff on Mexico, originally set to take effect on the 4th, would be delayed for one month as negotiations continue.

President Trump also criticized Canada, saying he had a "good conversation" with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau but added, "Canada does not treat us well."

During his morning call with Prime Minister Trudeau, no agreement was reached on tariffs, and a follow-up call is scheduled for the afternoon.

Regarding China, President Trump said, "We will probably talk within 24 hours. We do not want fentanyl coming into our country." He also claimed, "China is involved in the Panama Canal, but it won’t last long."

He described the tariffs on China as an "opening salvo," adding, "If we don’t make a deal, China’s tariffs will go up."

This suggests that the 10% tariff on China, set to take effect on the 4th, is just the beginning, and if satisfactory negotiations on issues like fentanyl and the Panama Canal are not reached, the tariff rates will increase.

President Trump plans to speak with Panama on the 7th regarding the canal issue, stating, "Panama has agreed to certain things, but I am not satisfied."

He reiterated his stance that tariffs are necessary because it is very difficult to sell U.S. cars and agricultural products to the European Union (EU).

He explained that the EU uses issues like pesticides and other chemicals used in agriculture as excuses not to buy U.S. agricultural products.

He added, "We may not need to use all these chemicals," noting that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services, is looking into the chemical issue.

President Trump repeatedly argued that many countries treat the U.S. terribly in trade, saying, "If it were up to me, I would impose reciprocal tariffs on all countries right now."

During last year’s election campaign, he pledged to impose tariffs at the same level on countries that impose tariffs on the U.S.

President Trump stated, "Many of the countries we are talking about (regarding tariffs) are so-called allies, but they do not treat us well."

He also claimed that the countries targeted for tariffs are "dying to make a deal with the U.S."
