At the CES 2025 exhibition in Las Vegas, automotive technology companies showcased cutting-edge advancements that blend AI with camera and display technology to deliver highly personalized and safer driving experiences.
AI-Driven Windshield Displays
Hyundai Mobis collaborated with Germany's Zeiss to unveil the "Holographic Windshield Display," debuting at CES. This thin, transparent film applied to the car's windshield projects navigation and other critical information directly onto the glass. Unlike the LCD-based displays showcased by competitors like TCL and AGC, which are limited to the lower part of windshields, Zeiss's innovation earned the CES 2025 Innovation Award for its advanced use of special films and cameras.
BMW also showcased its Panoramic iDrive, which projects essential driving information at the bottom of the windshield.
Driver Monitoring and Safety Systems
AI-powered driver monitoring systems were a major theme. LG Innotek introduced a high-performance In-Cabin Camera Module capable of detecting driver fatigue, seatbelt usage, and even heart rate through a 5-megapixel RGB-IR sensor. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics’ subsidiary Harman presented Ready Care, a system that assesses driver alertness and suggests stops, such as nearby coffee shops, based on real-time data.
Hyundai Mobis also showcased brainwave monitoring technologies and smart lighting systems that adapt to the driver’s mood and behavior, adding another layer of safety and personalization.
Enhanced In-Car Experiences
Harman's Aura Lighting synchronizes interior lighting with music, creating an immersive driving environment. The system, integrated with Ready Care, can adapt to driver conditions, playing calming sounds or providing massages.
Sony Honda Mobility introduced its first electric vehicle, Afeela, which integrates Sony’s PlayStation gaming system for entertainment. BMW revealed plans to include conversational AI assistants in its Operating System X, further personalizing the driving experience.
Conclusion
The innovations at CES 2025 highlight the rapid evolution of automotive technology, merging AI, safety, and personalized experiences to redefine the future of driving.
